Diversifying vetinary sciences

Very few students who study veterinary sciences are from diverse backgrounds. To try and change that, the University of Liverpool wanted a film they could use in outreach sessions with schools to boost applications from BAME students.
We spoke to BAME students already at the University of Liverpool to get their thoughts on what our film should say. The insights from these conversations shaped the film we made.

Faheem, a current veterinary sciences student, was chosen to be the subject of our film. As production took place during the COVID pandemic, we were unable to film him on his rotation. Instead we created a brief for him which listed the points we’d like him to cover and he recorded himself talking to the camera of his mobile phone. We also briefed his friend who was on rotation alongside him to capture footage of Faheem doing the work he was given on his placement.

The film has been used extensively across various outreach sessions and with the BAME society.
