The University of Liverpool
The University of Liverpool was the first redbrick university to offer 100% online degree programmes (and second overall to the Open University). Laureate wanted a film to tell a story about this in a way that would engage the audience of a forthcoming Guardian
campaign.
90% of people skip pre-rolls, more and more people use Adblockers, and subscription-based content without advertisements (Netflix, Spotify, etc). To get noticed and effectively engage people with a brand – content needs to be rewarding.
We thought it would be fun to imagine what would have happened if the University of Liverpool invented online learning in 1881, using a Victorian steampunk concept as a lens through which to view the benefits of studying online with Liverpool.
We created a number of films of varying lengths and technical specifications for use across the Guardian Video + platform. The campaign was so successful Laureate plan to run a further campaign, and we have just finished work on the sequel, 1882.
